The science-backed
benefits of sauna use

Improves cardiovascular health

Sauna use boosts heart health by enhancing blood vessel function and lowering blood pressure. Frequent use can reduce cardiovascular mortality by up to 50% while increasing heart rate and circulation, similar to aerobic exercise.

Boosts brain health

Sauna exposure increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein critical for neuron growth. This supports memory, learning, and offers protective effects against conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Reduces inflammation

Heat exposure raises norepinephrine levels, an anti-inflammatory hormone, by up to 300%, helping to reduce chronic inflammation and speed up recovery from muscle soreness and exercise-induced injuries.

Increase longevity

Sauna use stimulates the production of heat shock proteins, which help repair damaged proteins and protect cells from age-related damage. Regular use can lower all-cause mortality by 40%.

Balances hormones and metabolism

Sauna exposure increases growth hormone, which plays a vital role in muscle repair, fat metabolism, and energy regulation. This aids in recovery and muscle maintenance while improving metabolic efficiency.

Enhances mood and focus

Sauna exposure boosts dopamine and serotonin, known as "feel-good" neurotransmitters. This improves mood and reduces symptoms of stress and anxiety. Regular use is linked to a 30% reduction in depressive symptoms.

Supports detoxification

Sauna-induced sweating helps clear heavy metals and toxins from the body. By opening pores and increasing circulation, it promotes natural detoxification pathways, leaving skin clearer and supporting overall health.

Boosts immune function

Regular sauna sessions enhance the production of white blood cells, strengthening the immune response and making the body more resilient to infections. Studies show sauna use can reduce the frequency of colds and flu.

“In a long-term Finnish study, individuals who used a sauna several times a week were found to have a lower risk of death from cardiovascular events and other chronic diseases compared to those who used a sauna less often”

(Laukkanen et al., 2015)

  • Contrast therapy is a powerful health optimisation technique that involves alternating between hot and cold environments.
